A former Senatobia policeman was arrested on charges stemming from his time as a law enforcement officer with the city, according to Tate County Sheriff Brad Lance.

Lance said Arthur Avant, who was D.A.R.E. officer for the Senatobia Police Department for 18 years, turned himself in to authorities on Friday, Nov. 9.

Avant, 51, was indicted by the Tate County Grand Jury in October on one count of fondling a child under the age of 16, according to court documents.
